Forgiveness
Dr. Richard Lyon discusses forgiveness. Learning to forgive is more than a moral mandate. Forgiveness can liberate us from false hopes and corrosive resentments, and thereby improve our emotional, physical, and relational well-being. The concept of forgiveness can be easy to understand, but difficult to implement. This presentation offers a notion of forgiveness that affirms both the need for grieving and for justice, and explains how forgiveness is usually more therapeutic for the “forgiver” than the “forgiven.” Forgiveness will be described as a process that is informed by insights from Psychoanalytic, Family Systems, and Cognitive/Behavioral Theories.
